Get Started with Umbraco
A collection of links to sites, blogs, wiki's etc. concerning the Open Source .NET CMS Umbraco. Most, if not all, are for Umbraco v3.
Official sites
- The Official Umbraco Website.
- The Old Official Website.
Mainly used for storing Umbraco v2 related items.
- Documentation.
Containing loads of nice How-To's (check out the Books section), especially the one done by Douglas Robar on How to Install Umbraco v3 on Windows XP.
- Codeplex: Umbraco.
Main dowload of Umbraco + source code.
Note: In 99.9% of all cases you don't need the source itself. Download the latest binaries instead.
- Umbraco Wiki Book.
Mostly containing documentation and tips to Umbraco v2, but a lot of it can still be used for v3.
- Umbraco Discussion Forum.
Friendly, user-driven message board, build upon Umbraco!
- Sites Running Umbraco.
Nice for inspiration, but really not that complete. Instead look at this massive list on the old site.
Packages / Plugins / Addons
Various addons for Umbraco. Note that some of the packages are posted on blogs, so the link might not point to the latest version!
- Umbraco Stats.
Gives you the ability to generate advanced web statistics reports from within the web interface! Available in a free light version for non-commercial sites, and 3 other (cheap) versions for commercial use.
- A CSS Skinable Umbraco Website Package.
If you're testing Umbraco I do not recommend using this package as it's a bit advanced. Use the default Website Creation Wizard instead.
- ImageGen Dynamic Image Generator.
Package that allows you to dynamically generate or scale images based on content. Really, really sweet package, it should be a part of any Umbraco installation you do.
- Autoform Plus.
A package for creating forms on a website.
- XSLTsearch.
A flexible, customizable search engine for Umbraco, based on XSLT.
- Captcha Image.
Image datatype with random, garbled numbers for avoiding spammers on posts.
- Package Creator.
Super-wizard for creating your own, custom Umbraco packages.
- RSS Package.
For creating your own RSS feeds based on the content on your website.
- Umbraco eCommerce Extension.
Source code of a unfinished, pre-alpha eCommerce extension: Warning: Some assembly required (took me 3 days to get it compiled and working with v3).
- Creating Newsletters.
Not really a package, but rather a How-To guide on how to create and send Newsletters from within Umbraco.
Blogs
From various people all around the world working with Umbraco. Sometimes contains invaluable tips & tricks on how to work with Umbraco along with several usefull, half-finished plugins that you can take for a spin.
- Niels Hartvig (the main guy behind Umbraco).
- Per Ploug Hansen / Objects.dk.
- Warren Buckley.
- Thomas Hoehler.
